Pokrov Local History Museum
About museum
Pokrov is located on the ancient Vladimirka road. It connects Moscow and Saint Petersburg with Russia's eastern regions via the Volga. This route has a long history: it served as a trade route and, during wars and invasions, as a route for military detachments and regiments. Here you can view exhibitions dedicated to the trade and military route, as well as the penal (convict) road. You will see the interiors of the 'Post Station' and the 'Coachman's', as well as authentic items from the 19th–early 20th centuries in the 'Kornilov Hotel' exhibit. In the 'Cheburovs — the Best Coachmen in Russia' exhibit you will learn about the famous Pokrov coachman Cheburov and see his wooden house, which has stood for more than 200 years. The 'Nostalgia. Soviet Pokrov' exhibit presents materials from the Soviet period of the city's life.
