Kosikhinsky District Local History Museum
About museum
The museum is a subordinate institution of the Committee for Culture of the district administration, founded on May 8, 1989. V. O. Chuvileva was appointed the first director. The collections were expanded through summer local history expeditions. In 2003 the museum lost not only all its items but also the building. However, the district's residents once again donated household items, family albums, books and award materials. Currently the museum's collection comprises more than 4,000 storage units. It includes two permanent exhibitions: 'Apartment of the 1950s' and 'Ethnographic collection of household items of past years'. The oldest exhibit in the paleontological collection is a fragment of the skull of a woolly rhinoceros. In 2008 the museum received original items from the Great Patriotic War (Karelian Front): a combat helmet, an identity tag (death medallion), and others. Our district honors the memory of people who made an invaluable contribution to history: G. S. Titov, A. M. Toporov and the communards of 'May Morning'.
