About museum
Kirsanov Local History Museum is one of the oldest in the Tambov Region. It was founded in 1923 and is located in a building constructed in 1860. Before that it belonged to the merchant Mityaev, who converted it into a merchants' club. Notable people gave performances here, and meetings of the Council of Workers', Peasants' and Red Army Deputies were held here in 1918. After the Civil War the building was nationalized and handed over to the Red Army club. In 1946 the Kirsanov Local History Museum was opened here. On display are collections of clocks, coins (numismatics), samovars, and antique furniture, as well as a bust of Kozma Prutkov and a chair that belonged to A. M. Zhemchuzhnikov. The museum offers guided tours for children and adults. Visitors can learn about the history and culture of the region.
