Yevgeny Abramovich Baratynsky – a Russian poet. Yevgeny Abramovich was born on 19 February 1800 (2 March in the new style) in the Tambov Governorate. He was educated at the Page Corps in Saint Petersburg, but was expelled for theft. After his expulsion from the Page Corps, at the age of 19, Baratynsky enlisted as a private in the Life Guards Jaeger Regiment, and then served as a non-commissioned officer in Finland.
In 1825 Baratynsky received an officer's rank and retired. After moving to Moscow, he married the daughter of Major General Lev Engelhardt. His first poem was published in 1819. He gained wide recognition after the publication of the poems "Eda" and "Piry", as well as his first collection of lyrical poems. In 1843 Baratynsky traveled abroad with his family. Yevgeny Abramovich died in Naples on 11 July 1844.
