Kilemarsky District Local History Museum
About museum
In 1999 the Kilemarsky District Local History Museum was established; its initial collection was formed from materials gathered by young local historians from the club at the District House of Pioneers. In 2001 the museum moved to a separate building on Chernyshevsky Street, which remains its location to this day. The building is a one-story wooden structure built in 1960 with an area of 142 sq. m., of which 125 sq. m. are exhibition space. The museum has a main collection of 3,960 items and a research-and-support collection of 3,153 items. The museum's exhibition consists of four sections: history, nature, trades and crafts, and ethnography. The history section features an archaeological exhibition as well as materials and documents about the founding and development of the district. The nature section displays scenes of Kilemarsky's natural environment. The museum's holdings include dishes and household utensils made of wood, bast, birch bark, and twigs, as well as blacksmithing items, pottery, glass and porcelain objects, numismatics, samovars, clocks, and other artifacts.
