Volzhsky Art Gallery
About museum
The Volzhsky Art Gallery is located in one of the most picturesque corners of the city; the building was constructed in 1881. Since 1994 it has housed a museum collection comprising works of painting, graphic art, decorative and applied arts, folk art, sculpture and icons. The core of the holdings consists of works by Russian artists from the 1920s to the present day, as well as works by local Soviet-period artists and items from the 19th century. The gallery features a large collection of Soviet graphic art from the 1950s to the 1990s, along with various examples of decorative and applied arts. Personal, group and themed exhibitions of contemporary Russian art are held regularly. Work to expand the collection continues.
