Khasavyurt Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
In 1992, World War II veteran, local historian and Honored Teacher of Dagestan Boris Petrovich Dorogobed founded the Khasavyurt Historical and Local Lore Museum, a branch of the National Museum of the Republic of Dagestan named after A. Taho-Godi. Thanks to Dorogobed's many years of field research, a large collection of archaeological, geological and paleontological materials was assembled, which became the basis of the museum's holdings. Here you can see items found in Dagestan: stone tools, bronze axes and mirrors, clay vessels and jewelry. The museum also displays the uniforms of 14th–15th century warriors and the history of the Caucasian War. The ethnographic collection presents household items of Dagestani peoples from various periods. In the Hall of Military Glory visitors learn about the battles of WWII in which natives of the Khasavyurt district participated, as well as about national heroes. The museum allows visitors to experience the history and culture of Dagestan and to learn about its people.
