State Museum-Reserve 'Tsaritsyno'
About museum
The gem of the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve is the pseudo-Gothic 18th-century palace by architects V. Bazhenov and M. Kazakov, the largest in Europe. It is surrounded by a unique park complex. Various cultural and leisure events take place on its grounds. The idea of creating a museum here emerged in the 1960s. A primary task was the restoration of buildings that had been gradually falling into disrepair. By 2007 the Bread House and the Grand Palace had been restored, housing the main part of the museum collections. Numerous archaeological finds are exhibited here, as well as a collection of folk and decorative arts of the Slavic peoples and professional decorative and applied arts of the 20th century. Visitors can also visit the greenhouses and enjoy a cascade of three ponds with an illuminated fountain and musical accompaniment.
