Sarov City Museum
About museum
The Sarov City Museum has existed for more than 60 years. It was established in 1957 and comprises four departments: the historical and local lore department, an art gallery, an art salon, and a folk toy museum. Its collection includes books from the library of the Sarov Hermitage, church utensils, icons, 19th-century clothing, personal belongings of prominent scientists such as Yu. Khariton, A. Sakharov, Ya. Zeldovich, as well as works by Soviet artists P. P. Sokolov-Skala, B. V. Shcherbakov, M. V. Kupriyanov, D. V. Nechitaylo, P. F. Sudakov, B. M. Lavrenko, M. P. Konchalovsky, M. G. Abakumov. The museum houses over 22,000 items. The museum hosts scientific-historical conferences, educational programs, subscription services, museum festivals, special events, meetings with war and labor veterans, creative gatherings, master classes, quizzes and competitions.
