Georgievsk Historical and Local History Museum
About museum
The Georgievsk Historical and Local History Museum was founded in 1967 and held the status of a people's museum until 1980. After that it became a branch of the Stavropol State United Local History Museum named after G. P. Prave. The museum conducts tours and lectures, and materials are also published in the media. Exhibitions on various topics are held regularly, using both its own collections and the collections of other institutions. The museum's exhibition presents the history of the city of Georgievsk and the Georgievsk district from ancient times to the present day. It features events such as the beginning of the construction of the fortress of Saint George, the signing of the Georgievsk Treaty, the famous Georgievsk fairs, the October Revolution, the Civil War, as well as the post-conflict recovery period. Special attention is given to participants of the Great Patriotic War. The museum collections include items of archaeology, ethnography and bonistics (paper money collecting). A substantial part of the collection is a documentary fund, which makes up almost half of all holdings.
