About museum
The Essentuki Museum of History and Local Lore was founded in 1963 and bears the name of its founder — veteran teacher V. P. Shpakovsky. In 1978 the museum received state status and recognition after winning the regional review of folk museums. The museum's collection comprises more than 30,000 storage units. There are two exhibition halls where more than 20 exhibitions are held annually. They feature works by artists of southern Russia, folk craftsmen, and traveling exhibitions from the collections of other museums. The museum is located in the historic center of the town in a two-story mansion built at the end of the 19th century by Dmitry Yakovlevich Karagachev, a priest of the Nikolaev Church. The museum has a rich history and offers many interesting exhibitions and events for visitors and residents of Essentuki.
