Dorogobuzh Local History Museum
About museum
In 1919 a Historical and Local Lore Museum was opened in Dorogobuzh, initiated by school worker I. D. Baranovsky and local historian-enthusiast N. I. Savin. He collected valuables from the noble estates of Dorogobuzh Uyezd, and in 1920 two branches of the museum were opened at the Alekino estate and in the Holy Trinity Boldino Monastery. However, during the Great Patriotic War the museum was completely destroyed. In 1980 a modern museum was opened in the district House of Culture, where you can see archaeological items, peasant household objects, weapons from the Great Patriotic War, personal belongings of veterans and notable residents of Dorogobuzh, as well as a substantial photo collection, sculpture collections, artists' paintings, historical documents and much more.
