House of Remembrance
About museum
The House of Remembrance is also a place of memory for the whole world and is dedicated to the victims of all wars.
On June 22, 2000, the House of Remembrance was ceremonially laid by Mayor G. P. Donkovtsev and Honorary Citizen of the city Y. D. Garankin. On August 15, 2003, the unique building — the House of Remembrance — was opened. It is located on Victory Avenue and is a continuation of the Eternal Flame memorial. The building was constructed in the form of a chapel according to a design by architect S. E. Smirnov. The main purpose of the House of Remembrance is to immortalize the names of Orenburg residents. The database contains the names of all Orenburg residents buried from 1900 to the present. In addition, since 1999 the city administration has published a "Book of Remembrance" that records the names of everyone who died in the past year. The second part of the book contains information about citizens who have deserved special attention and recognition. The House of Remembrance also displays the names of internationalist soldiers who died in Afghanistan, Chernobyl disaster liquidators, police officers who died in the line of duty in Orenburg, as well as Orenburg residents who died while serving.
