In the very center of Moscow, on Nikitsky Boulevard near Arbat Square, there is an old urban estate whose ensemble began taking shape as early as the 17th century. It houses the only museum in Russia dedicated to Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol and a research library. Gogol's House was opened in 1923 at the initiative of N. K. Krupskaya. Today the majority of visitors are young people aged 18 to 30, representing about 80% of the total. The library's holdings consist of 216,000 publications and attract 57,000 visitors a year. The library staff primarily cater to young people and to those studying the literary heritage and biography of N. V. Gogol.
