I. N. Kramskoy House Museum
About museum
In Ostrogozhsk, on Marshak Street, there is a small house built in the 1830s by Nikolai Matveyevich — the father of the future painter. Under a reed roof he spent his childhood. The dream of Ostrogozhsk residents — to create a museum here — came true in 1974 when the house was recognized as a cultural monument. Restoration work began in 1984, and in 1987 the house opened to visitors on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Nikolaevich Kramskoy. The house preserves the furnishings of that time that surrounded the boy many years ago. The main exhibit is a two-kopeck coin found under a ceiling beam during the restoration. The house museum is visited by children with their teachers, who learn to love, respect and not forget Russian traditions and customs.
