Kant's House
About museum
The ensemble “Pastor’s Manor of the Yudshen Parish”, associated with the life and work of Immanuel Kant in the 18th–19th centuries, is located in the settlement of Veselovka, Chernyakhovsk District, Kaliningrad Oblast. Here, in 1747–1750 (according to other sources, 1748–1751) Kant worked as a private tutor in the family of Protestant pastor Anders, teaching his three younger sons. One of Kant's earliest letters was written in the village of Yudshen on August 23, 1749. Today the pastor's house features an exhibition about Kant's stay in Yudshen and the building's restoration, as well as an exhibition by contemporary artists inspired by the philosopher's ideas. In addition, the museum displays finds, items of urban archaeology, historical collections from the KOIKHM (Kaliningrad Regional Museum of History and Art), and items from the 18th to the early 20th centuries donated to the museum by the "Society of Friends of Kant and Königsberg" from the collection of Dr. Dirk Loyal. Visiting the "Kant House" is not only an opportunity to learn about the philosopher's history and ideas, but also a wonderful way to spend time in the unique atmosphere of the past. How to get there: from Kaliningrad via the E28 highway (100 km, about 1.5 hours). By bus from the bus station toward Gusev, then on foot or by taxi.
