Chamzinsky Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
Chamzinsky Historical and Local Lore Museum, a branch of the Mordovian Republican United Museum of Local Lore named after I.D. Voronin, was established on August 12, 1992.
A group of local enthusiasts played a major role in the museum's formation: P.Ya. Mashkantsev, A.V. Yuriychuk, L.N. Mamaykina, L.V. Morozova. To organize the museum, a district Museum Council was created. Its chairperson elected was Lyudmila Nikolaevna Mamaykina, a correspondent for local radio broadcasting; the deputy was N.I. Davydova, a history teacher at Chamzinskaya Secondary School No. 1. In the early stages the initiative group faced many difficulties. The main one was finding people who could provide practical help in reconstructing past events and in collecting documentary and artifact materials. These people traveled to the villages, interviewed long-time residents, and collected objects. Thanks to their efforts, step by step the collections of the future museum were formed.
At present, the collection of the Chamzinsky Historical and Local Lore Museum numbers more than 4,500 exhibits. Preserving these treasures and making them accessible to the residents and visitors of Chamzinka is the museum's primary task.
