Museum of the History of the City of Borovichi and the Borovichi Region
About museum
The Museum of the History of the City of Borovichi and the Borovichi Region was founded in 1918 and is located in a two-story stone house with a mid-19th-century mezzanine. The exhibition presents items that illustrate the region's history from the Stone Age up to 1917. The museum displays flint finds from the Egol stone workshop, ceramic vessels of the Mstino Neolithic culture, women's jewelry, and objects of Eastern trade. Also on display are the original map of hereditary pilot Kuznetsov, the portrait of pilot Vasily Malyshev, a model of a barge, and a 'stone passport' — a historical document concerning the town's founding. The barge was a unique vessel with a shallow draft and a flat, flexible bottom, which protected it from destruction. By the end of the 19th century, Borovichi had become an industrial city known not only in the Novgorod Governorate but also in Europe.
