About museum
The Arsk Historical and Ethnographic Museum 'Kazan Arty' was opened on December 8, 2009, with the participation of the First President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mintimer Sharipovich Shaimiev.
The museum carries out socio-cultural, research, excursion and educational activities; it preserves and uses movable and immovable cultural and historical valuables, and also welcomes visitors. The main collection contains more than 11,000 items.
The museum's exhibitions present the history, culture and traditions of the Tatar people through the example of the recognized center of Zakazanye — the Arsk region. Events, people, deeds and achievements — the story of the 'Kazan Arty' museum is made up of these fragments.
The hall 'History of the Arsk Region from Ancient Times to the Mid-16th Century' tells the story of the region from ancient times to the conquest of the Kazan Khanate. The hall 'History of the Arsk Region as Part of the Russian State' covers the period from the mid-16th to the mid-20th century. In the hall 'Arsk Region in the 20th Century' visitors learn about prospects for the region's further development.
In addition to the local history exhibition, the museum has the office of a kolkhoz chairman, the interior of a Tatar home from the World War II era, and a Soviet-era school classroom complete with the period's accessories. Among the exhibits are folk craft products and artisanal tools. There are hand-operated stone millstones, a silversmith's workbench, the interior of a leather workshop, and more.
