Yaransky District Local History Museum
About museum
The museum hosts various events promoting the history and culture of the Yaransky District. In 1895 an artisan museum was opened in the town of Yaransk, intended to help sell products made by local craftsmen of the county. The house at 9 Kirova Street belonged to merchant Stepán Filippovich Rodigin, who likely traded in grain. Over the years the building was used for various purposes, including during the Great Patriotic War (World War II), when a chemical technical school was located here. In the mid-1950s the building was transferred to a nursery. In 1997 the nursery closed, the building was remodeled, and since 1998 the Local History Museum has been housed here. It contains permanent exhibitions dedicated to various historical periods, as well as holdings and collections of 30,000 items. The museum also hosts various events promoting the history and culture of the Yaransky District.
