Exhibition «Archipelagos» by Sergey Shishkov

CK19 Cultural Center presents an exhibition by the well-known Novosibirsk monumental artist Sergey Shishkov — the creator of numerous mosaic panels and stained-glass windows that adorn the city's key buildings: the N. K. Roerich Museum, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Metallurg Palace of Culture, and many others.

The project was conceived by the artist for his 70th birthday and is retrospective in nature; it includes a wide range of works: from sketches and studies, preliminary sketches, models and designs for monumental-decorative works, as well as photographic material documenting their realization, to easel works by the artist.

Following the artist's passing, the project's implementation was taken on by the Novosibirsk regional branch of the Union of Artists of Russia, his friends, students and colleagues.

"Sergey Shishkov should be presented at this exhibition in a personal way, because as a person he is broader than a dry official list of professional merits and achievements," says the exhibition curator, artist Nurlan Tairov. "Sergey Yuryevich left a memory in many hearts as a subtle and attentive master, a sensitive and generous teacher, a persistent and delicate inspirer and interlocutor. <…> In one of our conversations in his studio he spoke of the stones that fill his mosaics as a gathering of islands that organize and reveal the richly detailed character of the artwork. These archipelagos of smalto mosaic tesserae, colored stained-glass, his wall paintings, experimental relief works and three-dimensional objects became manifestations of the artist's inner, richly lived life."

The exhibition also features interviews with Sergey Shishkov, personal archival photographs of the studio and working processes, and meetings with colleagues and students.

The exhibition is a unique opportunity to discover a significant Siberian artist and to immerse yourself in the history of his impressive creative journey.

The exhibition runs until August 4, 2024.
