The construction of Vikhlyandiya park began in 2010, when businessman Vladimir Vikhlyantsev wanted to install a fireplace in his private house and invited the unconventional sculptor Vladimir Kolesnikov for the job. Thus a creative partnership was born, thanks to which an ordinary 20-sotok (0.2-hectare / 2,000 m²) plot was transformed into a fairy-tale park with astonishing structures and sculptures.
The private park Vikhlyandiya is located 250 km from Moscow, in the town of Kozelsk. On the small park grounds you can see a four-storey Tree House, a Techno-Garage, the House of Broken Ships, the House on a Bean Stalk, the Dragon Bridge and other unique art compositions. The Fairy House is the permanent residence of the estate owner, so entry is possible only by personal invitation. The park can be roughly divided into three parts: a walking path behind the Fairy House, a river area with a fairy promenade, and the Enchanted Forest, where new art objects are erected.
All sculptures are created using a special technique that employs rebar and art concrete. First Kolesnikov makes a sketch of the future piece, then welds a frame from rebar and wraps it with metal mesh. Cement is then applied layer by layer. The figures can be solid or hollow inside. After the cement dries, the sculptor’s daughter, Elena, paints the finished works with durable exterior acrylic paint.
You can wander the park for hours. The estate is loved by both adults and children, so it is often visited by large groups and families. From May to September a buffet operates on the grounds where you can buy pastries and drinks. The estate is open daily from 10:00 to 19:00. The price of a discounted ticket is 400 rubles, and a regular ticket is 600 rubles. Vikhlyandiya is free for children under 6 years old, children with disabilities, and people with disabilities of groups I and II.
