On the 220th anniversary of the birth of composer M. I. Glinka
The exhibition project "The Brilliant Dilettante" consists of four sections that tell the story of the life of the outstanding musician, his compositions and innovations, and his search for the Russian national idea.\r\n\r\nThe exhibition features authentic items that belonged to the composer: theatrical costumes, paintings, engravings and lithographs, musical instruments and set models. Among the paintings on display are rare works by Konstantin Korovin, Ivan Bilibin, Viktor Vasnetsov and Alexander Golovin. Visitors can also see an Aleksey Savrasov sketch for a set design used in one of the productions of the opera "A Life for the Tsar" at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia in 1870.
For the exhibition project, memorial museum items were specially restored — the personal belongings and manuscripts of M. I. Glinka, as well as a graphic work from 1881 depicting performers in roles from the opera "Ivan Susanin" surrounded by the scenery.
The title "The Brilliant Dilettante" reflects the uniqueness of M. I. Glinka's creative path: he did not have formal musical education, yet became a composer of the highest calibre and the creator of the Russian national opera.\r\n\r\nThe exhibition is based on materials and items from the collection of the Museum of Music, the funds of the Bakhrushin Theatre Museum and the Museum of Theatre and Musical Arts in Saint Petersburg, as well as from the collection of the Tropinin Museum and Moscow artists of his time.
The exhibition will run until October 6, 2024. Tickets can be purchased on the official website of the Museum of Music: music-museum.ru/events/exhibition/genialnyij-diletant.html
