Exhibition "Saint Princes Vladimir, Boris and Gleb with the Life of Boris and Gleb"
About exhibition
The exhibition is devoted to the icon "Saints Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir and the pious, passion-bearing Princes Boris and Gleb in their life" — an outstanding example of 16th-century Novgorod icon painting from the collection of the Pskov State Museum-Reserve. This icon has an extraordinary history: according to the inscription located on the lower part of the central panel, the icon was painted in 1545 in the Church of Boris and Gleb in Plotniki on the Trade Side of Novgorod. During the Nazi occupation it was, along with other items from the museum collection, taken from Novgorod to Pskov and then — via Riga — to Germany. The icon's subsequent fate remained unknown for many years: in the Novgorod museum it was listed among the masterpieces that vanished without a trace during the war. Only in the early 2000s was it established that the sacred object had survived. After restoration the image once again appeared in all its beauty.
