Exhibition 'Treasures of Fire Painting: 700 Years of Limoges Enamel Art'
About exhibition
The exhibition of Limoges enamels from private collections covers four main stages in the development of the art of 'fiery painting' and offers visitors a unique opportunity to examine the technological evolution and changes in aesthetic forms in Europe from the 13th to the 19th centuries. All the works included in the exhibition came into collectors' hands thanks to their expertise, connoisseurship, and knowledge of the specific features of this rare kind of jewelry art, as well as many years of collaboration with leading European galleries. On display are: a book plaque depicting the Madonna and Child enthroned — a rare piece dating to the 12th century and echoing Byzantine models; triptychs with biblical scenes (Moses and the Tablets of the Covenant; Christ as the Man of Sorrows); and a casket with the portrait of the German poet and art theorist of the 18th century Gotthold Ephraim Lessing.
