About museum
On 16 (28) August 1891 a museum was opened in Blagoveshchensk, organized by gold miners in honor of the visit of the heir to the throne, Nicholas Alexandrovich Romanov, the future Emperor Nicholas II. It was housed in one of the city's most beautiful buildings, belonging to the Kunst & Albers trading house. Since 1993 the museum has borne the name of G. S. Novikov-Daursky. Its collections include more than 160,000 items representing various aspects of the nature, history and culture of the Amur region. Among them are unique objects: the armor of a 17th-century Japanese samurai; costumes and ritual items of Daur and Evenki shamans from the late 19th–early 20th centuries; the Ust-Nyukzhi meteorite; a collection of art from Eastern countries; etc.
