Exhibition "Dreams of Siberia"
About exhibition
This large-scale project about the ancient and medieval past of Siberia and the Russian Far East has become a genuine Russian cultural brand; it has successfully toured Moscow, Vladivostok and Krasnoyarsk. The new exhibition in Irkutsk features more than 40 striking archaeological artifacts from the country's largest museums. The central exhibits are the unique Mal'ta "Venus" figurines — Paleolithic statuettes of women crafted by an ancient artisan in the 21st millennium BCE. The finds, discovered in the early 20th century in the Irkutsk region, enriched the global collection of Paleolithic art. Today they are housed in the country's major collections and, for the first time in many years, will be shown in their homeland — in Irkutsk. Contemporary art in the exhibition is represented by sculptures by the renowned Dashi Namdakov, which seem charged with the creative energy of antiquity. The exhibition will include tactile replicas of exhibits with audio descriptions for the visually impaired and labels in Braille. As part of the project there will be an educational program for children and adults. More details on the website.
