Zlatoust City Local History Museum
About museum
Zlatoust Local History Museum is one of the oldest in Russia, founded in 1825 as the museum of the Zlatoust Mining District. The museum's first collections were a collection of minerals and rocks and a collection of cold-formed and decorated weapons. From 1833 the museum was housed in rooms on the upper floor of the newly built Arsenal. The museum's second rebirth dates to the 1920s. The Zlatoust District Museum was located in a small room of 42 sq. m. at the Zlatoust Mechanical and Metallurgical Technical School. The museum was later provided with new premises of 480 sq. m — previously occupied by the school's carpentry workshops. On January 30, 1928, an art department was established at the Zlatoust District Museum. In 1929 the Zlatoust District Museum was moved to the building of the Holy Trinity Cathedral, where it remained until 1933. Since 1933 and to the present day the museum has been located in the former house of the mining chief.
