Sheremetev Castle
About museum
The castle, built to a design by German architect Rudolf Müller in the late Neo-Gothic style, combines elements of Gothic, Oriental, Romanesque and Old Russian styles. Red and black brick with white-stone details catches the eye. The entrance to the winter garden with a glass dome is located on the south side. Many well-known architects took part in the castle's construction. Each room had its own purpose; for example, General Skobelev's study housed a rich collection of weapons. The Oriental-style hall featured colored marble columns and Arabic murals. In addition, there is a Picture Gallery and an Oak Room. The park area of the Sheremetev estate attracts many tourists. The castle was often visited by Vladimir Korolenko and Ivan Aivazovsky. Restoration work is currently underway, and part of the premises has been allocated to a hotel complex. The museum complex offers tours of the castle's main house, the estate, the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, and the forest-park area.
