Velikomikhaylovsky Museum named after the First Cavalry Army
About museum
In 1939, at the initiative of the local community, a museum named after I. V. Stalin was opened. In 1957, by decision of the Council of Ministers, it was reorganized into the memorial museum of the First Cavalry Army. The focus of the museum is the house of the Velikomikhaylovsky peasant A. M. Kravtsov, where the headquarters of the First Cavalry Army was located and where meetings of the Revolutionary Military Council were held. In the memorial room everything has remained as it was in 1919: furniture, a "Molniya" lamp. On the large beam — the matitsa — the inscription "By God's blessing this house was built in 1882; consecrated November 13" has been preserved to this day. The museum exhibits artifacts, documents, photographs, personal belongings of the commanders and soldiers of the First Cavalry Army, Civil War posters, as well as the book "The Road Traveled" with a presentation inscription from the author S. Budyonny. The museum serves as a place of remembrance and education about the famed cavalry formation, reflecting a difficult period in Russia's history — the Civil War of 1918–1920.
