About museum
In 1962 the Executive Committee of the Kuybyshev Regional Council of Workers' Deputies issued an order to relocate the local history museum from Zhigulevsk to Tolyatti. This was the initial step in creating the Tolyatti Local History Museum, which is now one of the city's most significant museums. Currently its exhibition space totals 2,100 sq. m; it houses historical and local history exhibitions and environmental displays, as well as exhibition and collection halls. The museum holds 43 collections comprising 72,086 inventory items. Particularly important are the numismatics collection, the rare books fund, and unique household items from the 18th–19th centuries. The Tolyatti Local History Museum has earned high regard from specialists and recognition among Russian museums, and has won various competitions. Its mission is to encourage residents and visitors to strengthen their ties with Tolyatti.
