The Slantsy Historical and Local Lore Museum was founded in 1975 under the leadership of Honored Citizen of the city Simchenkov N. D. Within three years exhibits for the future exhibition were collected, and the exhibition opened to visitors on November 6, 1978. In 1979 an exhibition hall was opened, hosting various exhibitions. The museum became a meeting place for creative people. In 1989 an exhibition 'The Fauna of Our Region' was arranged, presented by the local taxidermist Mandryka L. N., and in 1990 a section 'The Life and Occupations of the Region's Population at the Turn of the 19th–20th Centuries' was opened. The museum's activities aim to study the region's history, foster patriotism, and develop the artistic taste of the population. Over the years the museum has collected materials on the pre-revolutionary history of the region, the history of the town of Slantsy, the Great Patriotic War, biographies of notable figures, and more. The museum's holdings consist of 8 collections comprising more than 12,000 items, including unique and rare exhibits.
