Saratov Ethnographic Museum
About museum
Opened as the 'Ulyanov Family Apartment Museum' in 1969 as a branch of the Saratov Regional Museum of Local Lore. In 1993 this branch was transformed into the Saratov Ethnographic Museum. It is located in a two-story building dating from the late 19th — early 20th century, which is a monument of history and culture — a cultural heritage site.
The house is associated with the life and revolutionary activities of the Ulyanov family. In one of the apartments of the house, from spring 1911 to August 1912, lived the mother and sisters of V.I. Ulyanov (Lenin). During the Soviet period the building was for a long time a multi-apartment residential building.
The branch does not have its own collections. The museum displays exhibits from the collections of the Saratov Regional Museum of Local Lore. Two permanent exhibitions tell about the folk culture of the Saratov region and urban life: 'Peoples of the Saratov Volga Region' and 'Leafing Through the Pages of an Album'. In addition to regular lectures, the museum conducts theatrical classes. Educational programs for schoolchildren operate regularly at the museum.
