Samoylovsky Local History Museum
About museum
In 1968 a public institution was established — the district local history museum, which welcomed its first visitors on May 9, 1990. Since July 1991 it has been a branch of the Saratov Regional Museum of Local History and occupies the second floor of a building with an area of more than 450 sq. m. The museum holds about 9,000 items, including an ethnographic collection from the late 19th – early 20th century representing the local Ukrainian ethnic group: a weaving loom, rushnyky (embroidered ritual towels), clothing, pottery and other household items. You can also see Ukrainian rushnyky and clothing that belonged to the first settlers of the village of Samoylovka. The museum presents three permanent exhibitions: 'Peasant Life of the Late 19th – Early 20th Century', 'The Duck Is Swimming, But Not Along the River' and 'Stop, Moment', as well as 'The Beautiful Work of Beautiful Hands' and 'Corners of Wonderful Nature'. In addition, the museum invites anyone interested to join clubs for Samoylovka residents of different ages who are interested in the history and nature of their native region.
