Choir Building of the Ryazan Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve
About museum
The Choir Building is a monument of 17th-century civil architecture, designed by the architect Y. K. Ershov. The building acquired its name from the singers' rehearsals held here, but it was mainly intended as housing for the episcopal attendants — the steward and the treasurer. The steward's reception room was located in the end section. The two-storey brick building is executed in the austere style of 17th-century architecture. Its decorative highlight is the porch, crafted in the Old Russian architectural style. Fragments of fine wall paintings have been preserved in the interior, and a "typical" residential section of that period has been restored. Today the building houses the museum exhibition "By the Custom of Our Forefathers", an educational and engaging display that tells of the daily life, routines, and festivals of the Russian people.
