About museum
The Olonets National Museum of Karelians-Livviks named after Nikolay Grigorievich Prilukin is the first district local history museum in Karelia. It was founded in 1958 and is located in the house of the well-known Olonets merchant Yegor Dmitrievich Kuttuev, built in 1872. The museum has national status and offers visitors the chance to hear the Livvik dialect of the Karelian language. It houses more than 21,000 items of various exhibits, including the permanent interactive exhibition "Formula of Strength" and the historical-ethnographic exhibition "Karelians-Livviks." There is also a "Weaving Workshop" where master classes are held on making textile products and souvenirs. An unusual exhibition of old New Year’s ornaments, located in the merchant’s shop of the museum, invites visitors into a world of childhood and wonder. The museum’s collection contains 860 fragile symbols of the New Year holiday, the oldest of which is over 120 years old. The museum offers tours and master classes for different age groups.
