Military-Historical Center "Torubaev House"
About museum
Torubaev Chambers are one of the oldest stone buildings in Kaluga, built more than 250 years ago, when the city was the center of the Kaluga Province of the Moscow Governorate. It was constructed in the second quarter of the 18th century by the Torubaev merchants in the Baroque style and is situated on a high promontory of the Oka River. From 1913 to 1933 Dmitry Ivanovich Malinin, a well-known researcher of the history of the Kaluga region, lived in this house. The exhibition displays objects and documents reflecting events of the Patriotic War, the Great Patriotic War, and the First World War. In addition, visitors can see Malinin's study, which conveys an atmosphere of provincial comfort and a patriarchal character, and learn about the house's architecture and the biographies of its owners. The center's purpose is the patriotic education of the younger generation and the preservation of the memory of military-historical events.
