National Museum of the Ust-Orda Buryat Okrug
About museum
On February 24, 1944, the museum was founded to introduce visitors to the culture of the western (pre-Baikal) Buryats. The museum has a total of 7 halls, 4 of which have permanent exhibitions. The first hall is dedicated to the region's archaeology, and the other three are united under the common theme 'The Sacred and the Profane World of the Western Buryats.' The museum's collections consist of more than 13,000 storage units, mainly ethnographic and archaeological items, collections of paintings and graphics, photographic documents, etc. On the museum grounds there is the 'Buryat Peasant Homestead of the late 19th - early 20th century' complex, which includes a zimnik house, the traditional Buryat dwelling — a yurt, and a barn. In summer, cultural and educational programs are held here: 'Land of Gesar', 'Shamantur' and 'Children of Baikal. Shagai Naadan.'
