Museum and Exhibition Center 'Otchina'
About museum
The Museum and Exhibition Center 'Otchina' was opened on June 10, 1997, in the district settlement of Kovernino. The building, dating from the mid-19th century and formerly owned by merchant Trofim Pavlovich Sezemov, is listed in the Unified State Register of Cultural Heritage and is a monument of urban planning and architecture. The museum's collection comprises approximately 3,000 items. Particular attention is paid to the collection of traditional folk handicraft (Khokhloma painting), which is of great importance to the museum, as well as to the numismatic collection tracing the history of the Russian Empire in the 18th–19th centuries. Archival documents from the 20th century allow the economic and political development of the Koverninsky district to be followed. The exhibits clearly demonstrate a unique layer of peasant household culture from the 18th to the mid-20th century. The museum conducts educational and research activities, including studies of other historical sources, and offers tourism and leisure programs.
