About museum
The Museum and Cultural Centre 'House-Estate of the Artist A.A. Borisov' is located in a regional architectural monument 4 km from Krasnoborsk, in the village of Gorodishchenskaya. Alexander Alekseyevich Borisov, a well-known painter, a pupil of Shishkin and Kuindzhi, the first polar artist and a pioneer of the artistic exploration of the Arctic, lived in this house intermittently from 1909 and permanently from 1914 to 1934. The house was built to A.A. Borisov's design between 1898 and 1903 and combines many architectural styles. On the roof there is an octagonal pyramidal glazed turret with an encircling balcony. Surrounded by a small but picturesque park, the house inspired the artist to create series such as 'Winter Tale' and works of the Solovetsky and polar cycles.
