In 2007 Russian specialists carried out a historical and cultural assessment of the city of Mariinsk and the Mariinsk district, as a result of which a Program for the preservation and use of the historical and cultural heritage of this region was developed. The assessment confirmed Mariinsk's high historical and cultural potential, which is unmatched in the Tomsk Region and in other parts of Western Siberia. In April 2008 a decision was made to establish the municipal institution 'Museum-Reserve Mariinsk Historical'. It organizes the activities of the museum-reserve, promotes tourism development in the region, and also offers guided tours and routes for ecological and active tourism. Visitors can tour the city's museums, see the sights, and visit the Center of Crafts and Trades, where they can make souvenir keepsakes with their own hands. All excursions and routes are conducted in accordance with environmental protection rules and regulations.
