Vuzh Multan Museum named after V.G. Korolenko
About museum
In 1962 A. I. Bobkov and M. N. Andrianova — honorary citizens of the district and teachers at the Korolenko secondary school — founded a school history museum in the village of Korolenko. In 1974 the administration provided the museum with a two-story house in which, in 1895, the writer V. G. Korolenko stayed; he defended the Udmurts who had been falsely accused of human sacrifice. In 1996 the house was recognized as an object of cultural heritage of the Udmurt Republic and was renamed 'Vuzh Multan'. To mark the 100th anniversary of the 'Multan case', a tourist route 'Echo of the Multan Case' was opened, visited by up to 1,000 people annually. The museum houses more than 800 exhibits; on the first floor are documents and exhibits related to the 'Multan case', and on the second are household items of ancient Udmurts in the style of an old Udmurt izba. The museum also presents the history of the village, its notable residents, and participants of the Great Patriotic War.
