M. I. Glinka Museum-Estate
About museum
The M. I. Glinka Museum-Estate in Novospasskoye is the only memorial museum in the world dedicated to the great composer. His homeland was invaluable to him, as it was here that he spent his childhood and adolescent years, received his first education, and where his powerful talent was born. The composer's grandfather's house has not been preserved, but his father built a new two-story wooden house with a portico and columns on its site. The museum-estate was opened in 1982 and is a cultural and historical center of the Smolensk region. It hosts the closing events of the All-Union Music Festival and the M. I. Glinka International Vocal Competition, as well as concerts by soloists of the Smolensk Regional Philharmonic. The museum exhibits historical and musical-literary materials, memorial objects and works related to the life and creative activity of M. I. Glinka.
