About museum
Object S-2 is a nuclear-proof bunker hidden in Sevastopol's central hill. Built in 1953–1956, since 2018 it has served as the Museum of Civil Defense, the Cold War, and human survival theory in critical situations. It features a variety of exhibitions on the history of and responses to non-standard emergencies and civil defense. Special attention is given to the history of the establishment of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) in Sevastopol and its current areas of activity. Also on display are individual respiratory protective equipment, an exhibition of hazardous objects found in Sevastopol, and declassified CIA materials demonstrating Sevastopol's significance in the Cold War. The museum holds lecture-tours on civil defense, the Cold War, the use of weapons of mass destruction, and issues of human survival under resource constraints.
