About museum

On May 16, 1995 the City Local History Museum was opened on the basis of public initiative. In 1996 the museum was registered with the Regional Department of Culture and received the status of a municipal institution, and Vladimir Gennadyevich Kulpanov became its director. Today the museum comprises 5 halls with a permanent local history exhibition and an exhibition hall. Its holdings total 23,641 items, of which the main collection comprises 15,632 items and the scientific and auxiliary collection comprises 8,009 items. These include archaeological finds, ethnographic and numismatic collections, photographs, rare books, documents and other collections representing the centuries-old history, culture and society of the city.
