Passing through the floors of gymnasium No. 11 on the 16th line of Vasilyevsky Island, you find yourself in a small but impressive museum of monumental painting. Its walls are decorated with large decorative panels, each of which is marked by the individual originality of the author. All together they form a single ideological and artistic cycle. The glorious events of the history of our Motherland come to life before the viewer, they acquire their interconnectedness, deep patriotic meaning, and vivid imaginative essence here.

The idea to paint the walls of the school originated in the late 60s of the last century. It was then, on the initiative of Professor Andrey Andreevich Mylnikov, that a group of muralists who had just graduated from the institute decided to apply their knowledge in a specific independent work. It was not by chance that the school on Vasilyevsky Island became the venue for it — already the choice of the object opened up unknown creative possibilities for young painters.

Vladimir Tabanin, Vyacheslav Litvinov, and Viktor Bashkov started this interesting business.
Later, Oleg Marushkin and Ivan Shevchenko joined them, and then Ivan Govorkov. The hard work on creating the original panel cycle lasted for several years. And all these years, the authors of the murals, who passed a serious examination of creative maturity at the school on Vasilyevsky Island, remembered with gratitude their teacher, Andrei Andreevich Mylnikov, a great artist, an experienced and demanding teacher.
