Tomsk History Museum
About museum
The Tomsk History Museum is located on the southern promontory of Voskresenskaya Hill, where the Tomsk fortress was built in 1604. The museum houses over 6,000 exhibits, including unique items discovered during excavations. One of the most interesting exhibits is a printed glazed tile depicting a strange creature — the Dinotherium — which has become the museum's symbol. The museum's halls feature permanent historical and local-history displays, as well as annual thematic exhibitions. The museum building was constructed in 1859 for the Police Administration, and a fire watch-tower stood on its roof; it has now been restored and is the only equipped observation platform in Tomsk, offering a splendid view of the city.
