Museum of the History of SPbPU
About museum
The Polytech Museum is a gateway into the 120-year history of the University, revealing to visitors the achievements, discoveries and secrets of the Polytechnic campus. From the founding of the Polytechnic it was planned to create three museums to acquaint students with the fundamentals of their specialties. In 1924, on the initiative of M. A. Shatelen, an Electrotechnical Museum was established, which after the founder’s death in 1957 was virtually destroyed. The remaining machines formed the basis for the creation of the Historical-Technical Museum in 1976. It includes the exhibition hall of the Main Building, the Room of Military Glory, the main exhibition and collections in the Second Professors’ Building, the oldest laboratories and classrooms in the historic buildings, and the campus’s memorial and commemorative sites. The museum offers visitors exhibitions dedicated to the history of the University’s founding and development, its technical equipment and research work, and the evolution of technical devices and visual aids.
