Vyborg Palace of Culture
About museum
In 1927, during celebrations of the tenth anniversary of the October Revolution, the Vyborg House of Culture opened in a progressive working-class district of Leningrad; it became the city's leading socio-cultural center and a flagship of educational and cultural work.
The city's first amateur photography club was established here, later becoming famous across the country. Exhibitions of the photo club's members are held right in the palace; the displays change frequently and arouse genuine interest among the public.
The palace's amateur artistic activities and hobby groups have always been distinguished by a high standard.
Almost every Saturday, performers, amateur artists, soloists and vocalists perform in the concert hall on the palace's fifth floor. These concerts feature vocal classics by Russian and foreign composers, Russian and Soviet songs, and arias from operettas. The concerts are held free of charge.
The children's exemplary dance ensemble "Carousel" was founded in 1984 at the Vyborg Palace of Culture. Young dancers learn the fundamentals of various choreographic styles, with special emphasis on folk dance. The ensemble's repertoire consists of more than 80 dance pieces.
The Vyborg Palace of Culture's People's Theatre for Young Spectators is the oldest children's amateur theatre in Saint Petersburg. It was formed in September 1945 as a children's theatre circle. In 1961 it became the first in the Soviet Union to be awarded the title 'People's Theatre for Young Spectators'!
