Museum of the History of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly
About museum
In 2011 Evgeny Stepanovich Savchenko, the governor of Belgorod Oblast, proposed establishing the Museum of the History of the KMA in the building of the former School No. 10. This historic building has significant regional importance: in 2013 it turned 100 years old. The administration of the Gubkin city district, as well as the mining enterprises — the KMA Ruda Combine, Lebedinsky GOK and Stoilensky GOK — supported the governor's initiative. The museum was ceremonially opened on September 11, 2012. It displays original materials (photographs, documents and work-related artifacts) presenting the history of the discovery, study and industrial development of the KMA basin, as well as its contribution to the socio-economic development of the region. The museum has five halls: the history of the discovery and study of the KMA, the KMA Ruda Combine, Lebedinsky GOK, Stoilensky GOK and geology. The outdoor exhibition features mining equipment.
